My Story

.

An interest in people and a desire for a challenging career led me to study medicine. Early on in my working life, I realised it was people's stories that really interested me. A fascination with other cultures, travel and the complex world in which we live guided me to humanitarian medicine, working in Sierra Leone, Uzbekistan, India and South Sudan before becoming a medical advisor for a large multinational NGO.

Whilst my work was interesting and challenging, as time went on I had to face the fact that I was becoming increasingly unhappy. I was spending the majority of my time at a laptop and was feeling increasingly disconnected from the people we were treating. Initially I didn't know what to do with these feelings - I'd worked so hard to get here! - but I knew something needed to change. One of the many steps in this journey was a journalling exercise designed to help people identify their values. My top value was 'Connection' - it struck me that I was living out of line with my values and this was causing my unhappiness.

I made the decision to return to working face to face with people as an NHS doctor. I'd become increasingly interested in psychology and therapy and, after having had a very positive experience earlier in my career with Cognitive Hypnotherapy when I'd been struggling to pass a postgraduate exam, had always had in the back of my mind that one day I would train to become a Cognitive Hypnotherapist. I decided that it was time to start this work.

I believe that people are fully capable of changing their own lives, but at times we need someone else 'in our corner' to help us work through the things that are holding us back. I offer a friendly, calm and supportive space for you to do just that.

I completed my Cognitive Hypnotherapy training at the Quest Institute, London. I hold a Diploma in Hypnotherapy in Practice and am currently on their Master Practitioner Programme. I am a certified NLP Practitioner. I'm a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapists and the Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy Practitioners' Association. Outside of hypnotherapy, I am a member of the Royal College of Physicians and hold a Masters Degree in Public Health.
