What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

Learn More About How Cognitive Hypnotherapy Works And What To Expect

Cognitive Hypnotherapy was developed by Trevor Silvester, founder of the Quest Institute, more than 25 years ago. It combines hypnotherapy with the most effective tools from other disciplines such as neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and positive psychology. Each person's issue is unique in terms of the way it affects their brain function and Cognitive Hypnotherapy works to offer a flexible model that can be tailored to an individual's problem and their solution.

A person's 'problem state' is the pattern of beliefs and thoughts that are keeping them where they are. Most of these patterns are programmed by our subconscious minds. Cognitive Hypnotherapy uses deep relaxation and light trance so that people can access their subconscious mind and be guided to rewire these patterns and negative emotions. A person's 'solution state' is how they would like to perceive their reality, which can be altered by reprogramming their present negative beliefs and patterns, as well as visualising how they would like to see their future.

A first session will be a relaxed conversation where we gather a detailed picture of your issue, and what happens in your brain and body when you are experiencing it. From the second session onwards, we will use a range of techniques during hypnosis to remove the negative emotions surrounding your issue and start to build a positive vision of your future.
